Safety Night

Once a month just prior to the issues of social assistance cheques, a group of WISH participants from the Aboriginal Culture and Creativity program assemble care packages and take to the street armed with "bad date" sheets, care packages, harm reduction supplies, coffee and warm smiles.
The purpose of this outreach is to connect with women where and when they work to make sure that they are thinking about their safety when it comes time for cheque issue, a time when there is usually a great deal of street activity which can often escalate quickly. It is based on a peer to peer model which increases trust and open communication between the outreach group and the women they meet on their route. For members of the Culture and Creativity Program, Safety Night outreach is an opportunity to take on a leadership role wth their peers and offer their support for the safety of their sisters.
