Staff and Volunteers
WISH is fortunate to have a strong team of dedicated staff who work in the Drop-In Centre and in related programs. They each bring to their jobs a sense of dedication that is immeasurable in terms of what they face each day. Their jobs are demanding and a combination of a deep sense of caring, a focus on acceptance, a non-judgemental outlook, an understanding of barriers facing women working in survival sex and a sense of humour are some of the qualities needed to carry out their work. The staff guide the frontline work of the society and give so much to the lives of women living and working on the street.
The staff at the WISH Drop-In Centre are supported by a group of volunteers made up of women from all walks of life, each of whom brings to WISH her special gift of caring and support. It is the strength of the volunteers that allows WISH to operate daily and who help to create a safe place of respite for women survival sex workers. Volunteers work side by side with the staff to produce and serve the evening meal, sort and give out donations, set up and clean the WISH space and address the pressing needs of the women they meet.
Volunteers are instrumental in fund raising, working on various Board committees and engaging their friends and co-workers in supplying the Drop-In with clothing, toiletries, make-up and many other items. They are also very active in working with the staff to create special nights such as the “Spring Fling” and the “Summer BBQ”, annual events that everyone enjoys.
Please contact WISH at wishdropincentre@telus.net for information on the next volunteer orientation.
